According to the Indonesia SEA 2021 e-Conomy report compiled by Google, Temasek Holdings and Bain & Co, Indonesia's internet economy in the last 3 years has increased by 32% from USD 40 billion in 2019 to USD 70 billion in 2021. GMV of the internet economy Indonesia in 2025 is also predicted to continue to grow by 20% to 146 billion USD. There are several sectors contributing to the internet economy, but the e-commerce sector has been the largest contributor since 2019 and is predicted to remain the largest contributor to Indonesia's internet economy in 2025.

E-commerce in Indonesia is experiencing a very significant increase lately. Based on data released by Statista, the number of Indonesian e-commerce users in 2021 will reach 159 million users. Every year the number of e-commerce users has grown by more than 10%. Meanwhile, in terms of revenue, Indonesian e-commerce generated USD 55,975 million in 2021, growing by around 58% from USD 9,010 million in 2017. Sales of electronic goods became the category of goods with the largest contribution, namely 25.79% of total revenue in 2021, followed by toys, hobbies & DIY 17.18%; furniture items 16.57%; and fashion goods 16.04%. In 2025 the number of Indonesian e-commerce users is predicted to reach 221 million users and will generate revenue of USD 90,192 million.
