About Us

Fifty Years of Looking Forward

Founded in 1975 in response to a growing need for businesses to mitigate the risks of operating around the world, Control Risks has spent more than fifty years doing something no other firm does quite the same way: helping the world's most dynamic organisations succeed in a volatile world. Today we are trusted by 80% of the Fortune 500 and over 60% of the Fortune Global 500 — a global strategic intelligence and security firm that operates seamlessly across the digital and physical domains, wherever our clients need us. We are a private company, held through an employee ownership trust, which means no single person can influence or control our strategic decisions. That independence is the foundation of the unbiased, objective advice we are known for. From the boardroom to the most complex and high-risk environments on earth, we don't just know the world — we live and work in every part of it.

Who we are

A Global Team Driven by a Passion to Make the Difference

We are a global team of experts drawn from intelligence, security, law, forensics, technology, and crisis management — brought together by a genuine one-firm culture built over decades. Our clients include national and multinational businesses across every sector, law firms, government departments, non-governmental organisations, and small and medium-sized companies navigating the journey to greater security, compliance, and resilience. Diversity, in every sense, is the backbone of our workforce. Multiple skill sets, nationalities, backgrounds, and outlooks make our teams genuinely built for the world our clients work in. With offices in every region and time zone, we are positioned to help you wherever and whenever required. Crisis management is in our DNA, and through experience we have nurtured the combination of expertise our clients need — not just to survive disruption, but to emerge from it stronger.

What we do

From the Boardroom to the Most Complex Environments

We help organisations anticipate risk, protect people, assets and reputation, and pursue opportunity — from the boardroom to the most complex and high-risk environments on earth. Our work spans Operational and Protective Security, Geopolitical Risk Advisory and Strategic Intelligence, Digital Risks, Crisis Response, Ethics and Compliance, Forensic Services, Organisational Resilience, Security Risk Management, Built Environment and Infrastructure Risk Management, Discovery and Data Insights, Embedded Consulting Services, and Training and Development Solutions. From advice to delivery, we operate across the digital and physical domains with equal fluency. Whether clients need intelligence-led protection for executives at a global sporting event, help scaling secure AI adoption, guidance through a complex sanctions landscape, or the capability to respond when a crisis strikes, we bring the expertise, the reach, and the experience to make confident decisions possible.

Our Purpose

In a Changing World, We Make the Difference

From the beginning, Control Risks and the people who work here have had a strong sense of purpose. We understand risk, cut through uncertainty, and empower our clients to make better decisions. We keep opportunity moving forward and support organisations to benefit the communities and environments they work in. Through insight and experience, we help to mitigate threats, whatever form they take. In times of hope and times of crisis, we stand alongside our clients. When what matters most is on the line — we make the difference.

Our Values

The Foundation of Everything We Stand For

Control Risks is defined by its sense of adventure and opportunity, its aversion to unnecessary hierarchy, and an unwavering commitment to do the right thing in often demanding circumstances. These qualities are central to what we believe is a genuinely unique culture. Our core values are not aspirational statements — they are the principles each of us lives by every day: integrity and ethics, collaboration and teamwork, commitment to people, and professionalism and excellence. We adhere strictly to a fully embedded Code of Ethics, overseen by an Ethics Committee that includes our Chief Executive Officer and General Counsel. We believe that the manner in which we serve our clients, our stakeholders, and the communities in which we operate is a reflection of who we are as people — and we hold ourselves to that standard without exception.

Why working with us

Trusted by Most of the World's Leading Businesses

Eighty percent of the Fortune 500 and over sixty percent of the Fortune Global 500 trust Control Risks — and that trust is earned, not given. We bring over fifty years of accumulated expertise across security, intelligence, compliance, forensics, crisis management, and digital risk under one roof, operating seamlessly across the physical and digital domains wherever our clients need us. We don't just advise — we deliver, with embedded consultants, 24/7 operations through Control Risks ONE, AI-enabled intelligence platforms, and specialists who live and work in the markets they advise on. Our independence, guaranteed by our employee ownership structure, means our counsel is always objective and always in our clients' best interests. And because crisis management is in our DNA, no one matches our ability to help organisations not only confront disruption, but emerge from it stronger.

Sustainability

Corporate Resilience Starts with Responsible Practice

Sustainability is a strategic imperative for Control Risks — not a reporting exercise, but an integral part of our Code of Ethics and central to our concept of being a well-governed business. Our approach is structured around five focus areas: integrity and ethics, labour and human rights, cyber and data protection, greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint, and diversity, equity, inclusion and social mobility. We are committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 in line with the UK government's legally binding target, guided by our Net Zero Strategy — overseen by the Board and Executive Committee with short-term targets aligned to SBTi. We measure our impact, publish outcomes in our Global Greenhouse Gas Annual Report, and hold ourselves accountable through independent assessments including EcoVadis. As a participant in the UN Global Compact since 2007, we annually submit a Communication on Progress with particular focus on human rights and countering corruption. Our sustainability commitments extend beyond our own operations to the organisations we serve.

Community & Impact

The Manner in Which We Operate Is a Reflection of Us as People

At Control Risks, corporate responsibility is integral to the services we provide and the way we run our business — not a separate programme, but a reflection of who we are. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of corporate governance, with governance structures, board-level committees, and an independent whistleblowing channel that meets Transparency International's guidance. We have been central to the development and adoption of security industry standards and codes of practice with a focus on human rights, including contributing to the Swiss government-led International Code of Conduct for Private Security Providers. In markets where we operate, such as Iraq, our operations are accredited to ISO9001, ISO18788, PSC1 and ISO45001, demonstrating our commitment to ethical and compliant practice on the ground. We invest in communities through programmes including our Africa Graduate Programme — active across Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal and Kenya — and our KSA Graduate Programme, creating meaningful pathways for local talent in the markets we serve.

Inclusion & Diversity

One Firm at Work — Bring Your Whole Self

At Control Risks, diversity, equity and inclusion are a business priority — because the creative blend of perspectives we bring together is precisely what allows us to see the world as it really is, and to better help our clients thrive in it. Bringing together a variety of personal and professional backgrounds is not a nicety; it is essential to the work we do and central to our One Firm at Work ethos. Wherever in the world you work, you are part of one company and one culture. We thrive on and learn from our differences. We monitor diversity across the firm, ensure appointment and performance processes are transparent and free from bias, and incentivise our colleagues to share work with those who are objectively most qualified to do it best. Our People Networks — the Women's Network, MOSAIC (our LGBTQIA+ forum), and Synergy (our ethnic diversity network) — are integral parts of our Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Forum. We also provide consistent global minimums for maternity and paternity leave and flexible working principles, in full recognition that our colleagues need support to balance work with personal goals. We are not perfect, and we are working to improve — that transparency is part of who we are.
