What we do

Aristotle considered that to engage people, a leader needed first to have a clear message: Logos. Then, the leader, in order to be credible, had to behave in a manner coherent with their message: Ethos. Finally, to move people from intention to action, the leader needed to be able to speak to their hearts: Pathos.


Logos:

In times of change, when creating engagement is paramount, Logos is the “Clarity Test”. It is about co-creating understanding, meaning and sense of the new plan. We advise leaders on the best way to create time and space for their people to understand the “what” and the “why” of the changes, to see how they can actively contribute and to feel accountable. Logos is about rationale, logic and intellect.


Ethos:

Once people understand the plan for change, they tend to scrutinise their leaders to note whether or not they “walk the talk”. Ethos is the “Credibility Test”. Cynicism, criticism and disillusion will soon emerge if the leaders’ behaviours are inconsistent with their stated intention. We help leaders identify which behaviours will best demonstrate their commitment to change and coach them to practice these. Ethos is about coherence and trustworthiness.



Pathos:

People move from intention to action when their emotions are engaged: when they feel excited, inspired, even compelled to act. Pathos is the “Engagement Test”. It involves stories, metaphors, gestures and symbols which speak to people’s hearts and souls. We prepare leaders to authentically engage the emotions of their people and create the dynamics that will lead to change. Pathos is about passion, belief and commitment.
