About Us

Built on a Heritage of Solving What Others Can't

In 1957, MIT professor Dr. Harl Aldrich and Harvard graduate Jim Haley opened the first New England firm focused on soil and foundation engineering. Their founding philosophy — technical excellence, innovation, and unwavering client service — has shaped everything we've become. Today, Haley & Aldrich's 1,000+ environmental and geotechnical engineering consultants work across 40+ U.S. offices, solving our clients' most complex challenges above and below ground. We've never outgrown our founders' ethos: we ask the right questions, listen deeply, and respond with unexpected approaches that often surpass expectations.

Who we are

Problem Solvers Who Act as Client Advocates

We're engineers and scientists who go beyond technical problem-solving. Our team acts on-the-ground as advocates — meeting with regulators, community groups, and stakeholders to turn potential opponents into our clients' champions. With a typical senior leader tenure of 16 years at Haley & Aldrich, our people bring depth of knowledge and genuine investment in outcomes that endure. We train our team to be active listeners and creative thinkers — because getting results efficiently and sustainably means anticipating roadblocks before they appear.

What we do

Environmental and Engineering Consulting Across the Full Project Lifecycle

From brownfields redevelopment and contaminated site management to geotechnical engineering, EHS compliance, disaster and climate resilience, and water resources — we bring a whole-system approach that balances complex, often competing needs. We apply Lean thinking to eliminate waste and increase value, combine market knowledge with service expertise, and draw talent nationally to staff each project with precisely the right team. Our environmental consulting services address diverse project needs and set the standard for innovation.

Our Purpose

Making Antifragility a Reality

Our vision is a world where communities see disruption as an opportunity to enhance safety, well-being, and quality of life — going beyond resilience to become antifragile. Our mission is to make antifragility a reality by solving our clients' most meaningful challenges in the built and natural environments. Our work impacts lives as we guide communities through change, creating safer, more robust places to live and work.

Our Values

The Principles That Have Guided Us Since 1957

Our deeply held values propel our vision and mission forward: One team makes us stronger. Wise stewardship today secures a thriving tomorrow. Holistic well-being is at the heart of who we are. Continuous learning sets us apart. Challenges are opportunities to learn and innovate.

Why working with us

The H&A Difference: Depth, Advocacy, and Innovation

Clients choose Haley & Aldrich because our senior market and service leaders bring an average tenure of 16 years — meaning they know your industry, your regulators, and your community as well as you do. We draw on a nationwide talent pool to build the right team for every project, not a cookie-cutter one. Our investment in applied research — like EradiFluor, our proprietary PFAS-destruction technology — means we bring genuinely novel solutions to the field. And we don't just consult: we advocate, negotiate, and build relationships that turn regulatory and community challenges into project momentum.

Sustainability

Strengthening Our Company, Our People, and Our Planet

By integrating responsible stewardship, ethical governance, and social responsibility into how we operate, we strive to create long-term value for our people, clients, communities, and future generations. We minimize environmental impact, regenerate natural systems, and embed circularity practices to protect air, water, and land. We enable clients to achieve positive environmental outcomes aligned with their sustainability objectives. We champion equity, social inclusion, and respect for human rights — and we govern our business with transparency, integrity, and accountability. Our sustainability report details our commitments to environmental stewardship, people and communities, and governance.

Community & Impact

Building Stronger Communities Through Our Work

We partner with schools and professional organizations in the communities where we work, connecting them to STEM fields and the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. Our distinctive STEM internship track engages high school and early college students — particularly from underserved schools — earlier than most corporate programs, providing experiential learning that sparks interest in future career paths. Our applied research initiatives push forward solutions to critical environmental challenges that directly affect community safety and quality of life.

Inclusion & Diversity

One Team: Stronger Through Diverse Perspectives

Haley & Aldrich doesn't just welcome diverse perspectives — we need them. We advance our one-team commitment through a community of practice, leadership development and mentoring programs, and employee resource groups where people at similar career stages can network and engage with company leaders. Our hiring program partners with schools and professional organizations in underserved communities, and our STEM internship track is designed to create a genuine sense of belonging. The spirit of continuous learning drives this commitment — no matter what milestones we achieve, we remain dedicated to making our programs more responsive and effective.
