Monitoring Quality
Empowering auto industry decisions through credible, meaningful and easily accessible customer based information.
Ipsos is the leader in proprietary global quality tracking programs. All major global manufacturers are using our quality monitoring platforms to continuously track and monitor new vehicle quality and durability via proprietary or competitive club studies.
Improving key product indicators via proprietary tracking programs is proven to translate to improved ranking in Ipsos Club benchmark studies.
Our Quality Feedback System (QFS) and Quality Connection™ data mining and reporting portal, are designed specifically for automotive initial quality and durability tracking programs. The platform includes a proven online survey, a pre-defined battery of quality-specific questions, and an interactive web-based reporting portal. Quality Feedback System is the leading platform used by global automotive manufacturers, in 30+ markets to track initial quality.
A comprehensive approach to survey design allows our automotive clients to access customer feedback in a fast and actionable manner. It also enables them to substantiate the need for improvement in the supply chain, reduce warranty costs and prevent early recalls. Our automotive experts can support prioritisation and allocation of manufacturing and design investments to achieve the best return on customer satisfaction, improved benchmark position and, ultimately, increase customer loyalty and brand retention.
More than 8,000 members of the global automotive industry currently use the Quality Connection™ platform to continuously monitor product performance to customer expectations. Our hierarchical survey approach allows for a short and pleasant respondent experience, while extracting the most comprehensive set of ‘things-gone-wrong’ diagnostic details in the industry. The entire program, from survey invitations, reminders, surveys, post-launch assessments and the reporting platform, has been designed to deliver the most reliable, robust and actionable data in the automotive industry.
As our data collection and reporting systems are proprietary, Ipsos is in a unique position to continuously listen to our clients and automotive customers. This enables us to provide questionnaire and data delivery portals with innovations such as Text and Video Analytics and Social Media integration, in addition to ongoing updates to cover new technology and vehicle features.
Early Stage
In an advanced product planning stage, it is increasingly vital to project consumer needs over the next five years.
At this early stage, Ipsos supports clients by engaging lead users, trend setters, experts, and consumers to illuminate future needs and trends. This can then be developed into valuable input for designers, product engineers, and R&D professionals to assess their new vehicle or mobility concepts. Ipsos employs a variety of research techniques and objective measurements to explore consumer mobility needs (emotional and functional), price perceptions, trends, and potential in early product planning stage for a variety of products (parts, features, whole car, portfolio) and service concepts.
A process called “Information Acceleration” will bring consumers up to speed in regard to a future scenario where they can more appropriately evaluate the concept in context. Typically, three or more years prior to launch, the “early stage” future mobility concept can be presented in any format: 2D, 3D, physical mock-up, or digital stimulus. We use Virtual Reality, Neuro and Behavioral Science for broader evaluation and measurements. Interviews can be conducted via in-person or digital quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
We develop and co-create tomorrow’s products by defining design, product, and quality benchmark with voice of customers as well as experts. Ipsos’ vast know-how in early-stage research, automotive thought leadership and breadth of research tools are invaluable to start your product development journey.
Concept and Product Success
Changing future vehicle concepts and communication to meet consumer needs.
One key challenge for manufacturers in the mobility industry is understanding and incorporating consumer needs and feedback. By doing this in advance of the launch and design freeze, we empower clients to improve their odds of success and address critical issues like exterior and interior design, pricing, marketing, and communication.
New products and services will be evaluated in a context where relevant competitors are presented, and insights on improving areas such as the product design, features, packaging, or potential quality pitfalls are gathered. Pricing and choice simulation can also be incorporated to estimate market potential.
While the pre-launch clinics typically involve evaluating physical and digital stimulus, augmented and virtual reality can also be used to present more innovative ways of showing the concepts and illustrating advanced features. Consumers are typically invited to the venue for an in-person quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the new product, but a modular, digital approach is also under development.
Ipsos is in a unique position to add insights on primary consumer feedback due to the resources in its global network and our robust hubs in key automotive markets. We can also provide in-depth understanding of macro factors, such as society trends, due to the breadth of research topics available that we cover.
Market Launch
Final product launch preparation post design freeze to validate product, target, pricing, and communication strategy.
Early launch assessment such as an accepter/rejecter study and pricing conjoint to review and finetune launch strategy to kick start product improvement for the next generations.
Accepter/Rejecter Study
Early buyers of the vehicle and its competitors (rejecters of test brand) can be engaged in an Accepters and Rejecters survey, in which their feedback is analyzed to highlight reasons behind the gaps between expected and in-market performance, from both product and marketing perspectives.
Accepters and Rejecter studies can be completed online or in person with early buyers of a recently launched model and those of key competitors to understand their respective strengths and weaknesses from both a product and marketing point of view (communication, dealership experience, etc.). As an added module, qualitative discussion groups or online communities can take place to obtain more immersive insight.
Marketing Clinic
Taking place pre-launch and after design freeze, these vehicle clinics focus on the marketability of the new vehicle – on positioning, pricing, communication and with a final validation of design on perceived strengths and potential short-comings. The new products will typically be evaluated in a competitive context where relevant competitors are presented to make final marketing preparations prior to a vehicle launch.
Consumers are frequently invited to a venue for an in-person quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the new model along with key competitor models, while a modular, digital approach can also be an alternative. Consumers typically evaluate the new models’ exteriors, interiors or any additional HMI or product features that the clients deem important. Pricing conjoint would be an integral aspect of the research to understand price elasticity and competitiveness against competition from a price/sales potential perspective. Often, product and user imagery will also be included, and sometimes along with a storyboard for qualitative understanding.
Automotive User Experience tests
How to improve driving and in-car user experience (UX).
User Experience, the user/ passenger in-car or “driving experience” is a rapidly developing concentration of the automotive field and mobility research. With autonomous driving and connected vehicles quickly developing, drivers and riders are presented with a plethora of new opportunities in the way they interact with the vehicle, as well as the way they spend their time in the vehicle. UX aims to provide feedback to explore, evaluate and optimize such innovations and new opportunities stemming from innovative features, apps, or Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems.
UX focuses on understanding user behaviors, needs and motivations through dynamic, digital, and non-digital techniques. In Drive Tests, we analyze both driver and passenger reactions and behaviors on open or closed roads, or sometimes in a custom-built “lab” setting depending on the stage of product development. It can also take place in a client-owned facility with advanced equipment, or simply using a tablet or mobile phone as a surrogate.
Established Ipsos teams of User Experience experts in key automotive markets offer unparalleled insights on user experience design and testing, and regardless of your needs, we can always help you set up an appropriate test.
How to predict mobility usage and vehicle sales.
Mobility analytics help clients better manage risks by analyzing price perceptions, elasticities, sales, share, and volume forecasting, as well as the user potential of future mobility offers.
Most commonly, this will be a module in a pre-launch pricing or marketing clinic where an advanced analysis is included to understand the new vehicle's preference, shares, and volume potential. It can also be a stand-alone survey to investigate how consumers perceive the pricing of different features and/or packages.
Advanced analytical tools such as conjoint methodology, configurator, and a range of optimization techniques are utilized along with the latest marketplace simulation techniques for more realistic predictions to optimize price and sales.
The Marketing Science teams at Ipsos are experts in calibration and validation techniques. With a profound understanding of simulation market research and other systematic research biases, their predicted results are much closer to what will be seen in the market than those claimed by consumers.
Quality Club
Ipsos Quality Club programs cover more than 10 countries, reliably and actionably collecting feedback from hundreds of thousands of customers every year.
Our questionnaires have been designed in a customer-friendly way to gather all the diagnostic information that engineering, manufacturing, quality, and product design teams need to identify perceived quality and root causes of customer dissatisfaction and implement corrective measures.
Quality Feedback System (QFS) Methodology
Our quality feedback system (QFS) methodology uses multiple approaches to invite customers to take our detailed yet customer-friendly survey, according to the method that is culturally accepted and preferred by each country. Despite the flexibility of the invitation method (email, SMS/text, etc.), all customers are directed to a globally consistent benchmark survey. Customer feedback is available to participating automotive clients within 24 hours, via our state-of-the-art Quality Connection™ reporting portal. This provides analysis from a respondent VIN (vehicle identification number)/level, to topline report dashboards on a fast, ongoing, and consistent method across vehicles, brands, countries, or regions.
