About Us

A Global Nonprofit Built to Strengthen the Social Sector

The Bridgespan Group is a global nonprofit consulting organization that has been a trusted partner to mission-driven leaders since 2000. Originally incubated at Bain & Company—which committed more than $2 million in seed capital to help launch the organization—Bridgespan has grown into a fully independent social impact advisor with approximately 500 employees across six offices: Boston, New York, San Francisco, Johannesburg, Mumbai, and Singapore. As a 501(c)(3) organization, we bring the rigor of top-tier strategy consulting to the social sector, always in service of our mission: to build a better world by strengthening the ability of mission-driven organizations and philanthropists to achieve breakthrough results. What we learn from every client engagement, we share openly—through major publications, a rich online resource library, webinars, podcasts, and multiyear research initiatives—so that the entire social sector benefits, not just those we work with directly.

Who we are

Passionate People Tackling Society's Most Critical Challenges

We are a team of skilled, values-driven people who come from different disciplines and backgrounds but share a single energy: a deep drive to make a meaningful difference in the world. Our colleagues bring expertise in strategy, analytics, organizational effectiveness, leadership development, and philanthropic advising—and they apply that expertise to the social sector's most complex problems. We cultivate an environment where people grow into leaders, both within Bridgespan and in the nonprofit and for-profit worlds beyond. Working at Bridgespan means collaborating on breakthrough strategies with some of the smartest, most passionate people you will ever meet, while gaining incomparable early-career opportunities for direct impact on the social sector. We carefully select high-impact projects, develop the most effective strategies for change in genuine partnership with our clients, and hold ourselves to the same rigorous standards of excellence we bring to every engagement.

What we do

Strategy Consulting and Advising That Accelerates Social Impact

We work with nonprofits, NGOs, foundations, individual philanthropists, impact investors, and corporations to provide strategy consulting, leadership development, and advisory services that address opportunities and challenges related to scaling social impact. For nonprofits and NGOs, our services span strategy development, funding strategy, growth and scaling, network design and optimization, organizational effectiveness, and services portfolio assessment—delivered through both direct consulting engagements and cohort-based programs such as Leading for Impact and our Leadership Accelerator. For donors and investors, we provide philanthropic strategy and grantmaking support to foundations and family philanthropists, as well as impact investing insights and services through Bridgespan Social Impact. Across every engagement, we draw on rigorous research and deep sector expertise in areas including education, early childhood, child welfare, climate and environment, public health, place-based change, technology and AI, measurement and evaluation, and executive team development. Everything we learn, we translate into original research and practical resources shared freely with the broader social sector.

Our Purpose

Building a Better World by Enabling Breakthrough Results

Our mission has guided every decision we have made since the day we were founded: we work to build a better world by strengthening the ability of mission-driven organizations and philanthropists to achieve breakthrough results in addressing society's most important challenges and opportunities. We are passionate about helping social change leaders find solutions to the economic and social barriers that perpetuate inequities and prevent individuals, families, and communities from accessing the opportunities they need to thrive. This is not simply a consulting mandate—it is the animating belief behind our work, our research, our people, and the way we show up every day as a partner to the extraordinary leaders driving change around the world.

Our Values

Mission, Values, and Beliefs That Ground Everything We Do

Our values are grounded in our mission and reflected in every client engagement, research initiative, and internal decision we make. Impact is at the center of why we exist—we hold ourselves accountable to the real-world difference our work creates in the lives of individuals, families, and communities. Respect for the people we work with and the communities they serve shapes every relationship we build. Candor—honest, direct communication delivered with care—is how we earn and sustain trust with clients and colleagues alike. Collaboration defines how we work: not as outside advisors handing down recommendations, but as genuine partners invested in shared success. And passion is what unites our people—a deep, personal commitment to the opportunity to create a better world. Together, these five values—impact, respect, candor, collaboration, and passion—define the Bridgespan way.

Why working with us

The Rigor of Top-Tier Consulting, in Service of Social Change

Bridgespan occupies a singular position in the social sector. We combine the analytical rigor and strategic discipline of world-class management consulting—rooted in our origins at Bain & Company—with more than two decades of deep, exclusive focus on nonprofits, NGOs, philanthropy, and impact investing. Unlike generalist firms that treat social sector work as a sideline, our entire organization exists to serve mission-driven leaders. That means our insights are sharper, our networks deeper, and our understanding of the sector's unique dynamics more nuanced than any other partner you will find. We have had the privilege of working with some of the world's most inspiring and influential social change organizations—from the Harlem Children's Zone and Boys & Girls Clubs of America to the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation and The Rise Fund—and the trust those relationships reflect is something we work hard to earn on every engagement. What we learn, we share, so our impact extends well beyond the organizations we advise directly.

Community & Impact

Advancing Equitable Change, Locally and Globally

Our commitment to building a more equitable and just world goes far beyond the individual engagements we take on—it is expressed in the long-term, multi-year research initiatives we invest in and the ways we show up as a sector partner. Through initiatives like Community-Driven Change, we explore how to center the voices and agency of communities themselves in designing solutions that work. Through Pay What It Takes to Get Results, we have helped catalyze a global movement to end the chronic underfunding of nonprofits—what we call the nonprofit starvation cycle. Our Racial Equity in Philanthropy initiative examines how racial bias shapes funding flows and what funders can do to close persistent gaps. Our Dreaming in Color podcast amplifies champions in the charge for equity and justice. And through our global offices in Africa, India, and Southeast Asia, we build local capacity and accelerate social change in regions where the need—and the leadership—are both extraordinary. These are not peripheral activities. They are central to who we are.

Inclusion & Diversity

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as a Commitment to Stronger Impact

At Bridgespan, diversity, equity, and inclusion are not values we aspire to—they are commitments we actively build into how we work, whom we hire, and how we lead. Our own and others' research is clear: teams with diverse voices, experiences, and talents perform better; an inclusive and equitable environment where colleagues from all backgrounds can thrive maximizes our impact; and teams that include proximate voices and perspectives are best positioned to add genuine value for clients. When designing solutions, an equity focus that centers the needs of those most marginalized produces better outcomes for everyone. We support and sustain a diverse, multiracial organization through Employee Resource Groups—including MOSAIC, VIBE, Pride at Bridgespan, FLAN, and Women at Bridgespan—that provide community, raise awareness, and create belonging across every level and region of our organization. Our DEI work is led by a dedicated leadership team including our Partner and Head of Equity and our Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and it is informed by our broader thought leadership on racial equity in philanthropy and organizational life.
