About Us

Sustainability Is Our Business

ERM — Environmental Resources Management — is the world's largest pure-play sustainability consultancy. Founded in 1971, we have grown through decades of purpose-driven work and strategic acquisitions into a global firm of 8,000+ experts operating across 40+ countries and territories from over 140 offices. Majority-owned by KKR and our own Partners, ERM combines rigorous scientific and technical expertise with strategic transformation capabilities to help the world's leading organisations operationalise sustainability at pace and scale. We work with more than 50% of the Global Fortune 500, and our 'boots to boardroom' approach means we can advance a client's sustainability agenda at every level — from site operations to the executive suite.

Who we are

A Team Defined by Purpose

At ERM, we are environmental scientists, engineers, sustainability strategists, health and safety professionals, data scientists, and communications experts united by a single purpose: to shape a sustainable future. Our diverse global team brings deep technical knowledge across climate, EHS, biodiversity, social impact, and ESG — and we pair that expertise with genuine passion for making a difference. Our Partnership model puts trusted advisors at the heart of every client relationship, and our values — accountability, client focus, collaboration, empowerment, care for our people, and transparency — guide everything we do. Effort pays off here and becomes career-defining work that leaves a positive imprint on our planet.

What we do

From Regulatory Compliance to Full-Scale Transformation

We support organisations at every stage of their sustainability journey — from managing EHS compliance and conducting environmental impact assessments to defining net-zero strategies, navigating carbon markets, and embedding sustainability into the core of business strategy. Our integrated offering spans technical delivery and strategic advisory across climate, nature, energy transition, social impact, supply chain, M&A due diligence, remediation, reporting and disclosure, and much more. We also offer a growing suite of proprietary digital products — including emissions.AI, Libryo, ESG Fusion, and CRISP — that give clients unparalleled insight and control over their sustainability and EHS goals.

Our Purpose

Shaping a Sustainable Future

Our purpose is to shape a sustainable future with the world's leading organisations. We draw on more than 50 years of environmental, health, safety, risk, and social experience to help clients define meaningful sustainability goals and translate them into tangible action — for their businesses, for society, and for the planet.

Sustainability at ERM

Holding Ourselves to the Standard We Set for Others

ERM's own sustainability programme is an overarching framework that supports our long-term business strategy and drives continual improvement. We have committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions across our operations and have had our science-based targets validated by SBTi to a 1.5°C-aligned standard. Our annual Sustainability Report sets out strategies for advancing action on decarbonisation, nature, human rights, and supply chain — and tracks our progress against our own commitments.

Our commitments

As the largest pure-play sustainability consultancy globally, it is imperative that we “walk the talk.” Our corporate commitments include:

  • Publishing an important new set of commitments on biodiversity with Act4Nature International, driving action across our work with clients, our own operations, employee engagement, and external engagements – including the ERM Foundation.
  • Pledging to drive growth in the demand for, and supply of, hydrogen in a new initiative known as H2Zero, created to help accelerate the use and production of hydrogen as an essential part of the future net-zero energy system.
  • Setting ambitious science-based targets to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as part of a unified private sector response to the global risks of climate change. Validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, this makes us an early adopter among the professional services sector.
  • Achieving net-zero carbon emissions across our operations by 2025
  • Disclosing our climate-related risks and opportunities since 2019, following the recommendations of the Task Force for Climate-related Financial (TCFD).
  • Adopting early the revised Universal Standards of the Global Reporting Initiative through our Sustainability Report 2022. We are proud to be a Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards Pioneer.
  • Reporting to the GRI standard through our annual Sustainability Report
