Working with us

Making Sustainability Our Business — and Yours

Every day at ERM brings the chance to tackle global climate, nature, water, and social challenges at scale. We are a purpose-led, high-performance business partnering with the world's leading organisations to deliver sustainability, EHS, and commercial impact. Our consulting teams work on the cutting edge of sustainability knowledge, methods, and technologies, bringing together international and interdisciplinary experts to serve leading clients across energy, mining, chemical, technology, financial services, and other sectors. At ERM, your work does not just advance your career — it leaves a legacy for the planet.

Why joining us

ERM is fundamentally a people-centered business.

Our ability to attract, develop, reward and retain our talented employees is central to our business strategy and vital to our future. We want to hire motivated people and ensure that our leaders and culture nurture and support their development and success.

Our organizational structure is built around our Partnership model, where ERM Partners are the shareholding managers and leaders of the firm. Key client, sector and geographically based teams, led by our Partners, collaborate across offices to deploy the right people for project assignments. This structure enables ERM employees to support projects across different geographies to meet client needs while also deepening their own professional experience.

ERM employees have the opportunity to reach their full potential and enjoy a long and rewarding career with the company. We invest in the future of our people through a focus on learning and development. ERM provides opportunities for ongoing learning across a variety of subject areas related to technical, business and personal growth.

Career path

Create your career

Our vision as an employer is to be the company that every sustainability professional wants to work for.

To meet our vision, we need people who are flexible and can adapt their talent and energy to grow with ERM, matching changes in the marketplace that impact the work we do for our clients and in a way that meets your needs and works with your personal interests, strengths and passion too.

Careers at ERM are a journey that you will be encouraged to self-navigate; you may join us working for a particular client and, through collaboration with other ERM colleagues, you may then find yourself working across service lines in order to develop capabilities for your chosen career path. Wherever your career pathway takes you, we will help you grow in a way that meets your needs and that of our clients, involves your interests, strengths and passions and is aligned to a globally consistent performance management and development process.

Training

Learning and development

Every new employee completes a number of mandatory training and local on-boarding activities to ensure they are safe and compliant with the requirements and policies of ERM, our clients and related legislation. We have developed a dedicated Discover ERM portal to support integration of new employees and the continued education of existing staff; an important part of our learning and development program from the start.

Developing a growth mind-set as you go about your work every day will make a huge difference to your career. We will support your pursuit of personal development and equip you as you take new opportunities, learn new skills, and expand your capabilities so that you, and therefore ERM, can be the best you can possibly be.

Your learning journey will be supported through development programs delivered by our global and regional learning team, online via the ERM Academy and development conversations with your Line Manager. We facilitate knowledge sharing in technical areas through lunchtime sessions and webinars and engagement in Technical and Functional Communities alongside some of our world class technical experts to grow your capabilities for business success.

Whether you are a new consultant starting your career, in a professional support role essential to the smooth running of the business, or a Partner looking to grow your skills and further your abilities, there are many opportunities at ERM to continuously develop through our blended approach to learning. We want to make sure you have the opportunity to apply your capabilities, knowledge and skills to projects that provide you with both stretch and fulfilment.

What we are looking for

What we are looking for

ERM is “the business of sustainability” – enabling global sustainability through business consulting. We offer a career path and training that supports both your technical and consulting development. Our clients operate in complex sectors such as Oil & Gas, Mining, Chemicals, Power and Technology, and many face challenging issues such as climate change, managing environmental and social impacts, human rights and increasingly how to digitize their EHS data to drive more robust business decision making. During your career at ERM, you will develop a first class sustainability consulting experience made possible by the breadth and complexity of projects our clients trust us to deliver from operations in more than 40 counties.

We are looking for early career professionals who are inquisitive, inspired and bring new thinking to challenge the status quo as this is what is needed by our clients as they address the sustainability challenges facing their business around the world.

A career at ERM will provide you with:

  • A company with core values that include Accountability, Caring for our People, Client Focus, Collaboration, Empowerment, and Transparency.
  • An entrepreneurial and performance driven culture; allowing you the ability to craft your future career.
  • Immediate opportunities to work on large, complex, long-term projects which make impacts at the local, national and global levels.
  • Engagement with a strong global technical network enabling you to work and learn alongside leading industry professionals.
  • A company with a solid reputation and strong client focus, working with clients in emerging and established markets creating sustainable plans to deliver growth.
  • And it’s more than just your daily work. Our colleagues around the world also have the opportunity to contribute to the causes that they really care about be it conservation, marine plastic pollution or human rights through to access of education for under-represented communities through our employee-led ERM Foundation.

Recruitment Process

A Straightforward Process Built Around You

The recruitment process at ERM varies by role and level, but typically follows a clear path: an online application through our careers portal, followed by one or more interviews, and in some cases a technical or case-based assessment. For early career roles, we welcome recent graduates and career changers with relevant academic backgrounds, internships, research projects, or transferable skills — prior consulting experience is not required. For experienced professional and partner-level roles, we look for deep expertise and leadership track record. All open positions are listed on our Workday careers portal. You can also submit a speculative application via our careers contact page if you do not see a current role that fits. Our recruitment team will follow up on every application and is available to answer questions throughout the process.

Diversity and Inclusion

Belonging Is the Foundation of Our Success

At ERM, diversity, inclusion, and belonging are not values on a wall — they are the foundation of how we work and why our solutions are better. Bringing together people from different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives is what drives innovation and delivers stronger outcomes for our clients. Our global Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging team develops and implements our strategy, ensuring our systems and processes are fair and bias-free. We are committed to creating an environment where every voice is heard and every individual feels genuinely respected, empowered to bring their authentic self to work each day. This commitment extends beyond our own walls: through Employee Resource Groups, our ERM Foundation, and pro bono work with communities and NGOs, we work to foster equity and positive social impact wherever we operate.
