About Us

Nearly a Century of Confidence-Building

Founded by Arthur J. Gallagher in Chicago in 1927, we've grown from a single-office insurance agency into one of the world's leading insurance brokerage, risk management, and HR & benefits consulting companies. With more than 72,000 colleagues and a global network spanning 130+ countries, we are woven into the fabric of local business communities everywhere we operate. Our client-centric, expertise-driven approach means we don't just sell coverage — we help you understand and manage risk at every level of your organisation.

Who we are

The Gallagher Way: Culture That Travels

We are a sales and marketing company dedicated to providing excellence in risk management services — but more than that, we are a community of colleagues who support, believe in, and learn from one another. The Gallagher Way — our shared values of passionate service, strategic innovation, and ethical behaviour — was first written by our founder in his own hand and still appears in every Gallagher office around the world today. There are no second-class citizens here: everyone's role matters, and people skills are as important as technical ones.

What we do

Protecting People, Managing Risk, Empowering Growth

We protect your people and reduce your total cost of risk through innovative insurance and risk management solutions. We put your people at the centre of customised benefits and HR programmes, using transparent, informed data to help you strategically invest in employees' health, financial wellness, and career growth. From employee benefits consulting and HR advisory to ESG consulting, executive compensation, retirement planning, and global mobility — our specialists bring depth and breadth of knowledge so you can make confident decisions.

Our Purpose

One Purpose. Infinite Confidence.

All that we do serves one purpose: to help you face your future with confidence. Whether you are a commercial enterprise, a public institution, a religious organisation, or a nonprofit, we believe that the right combination of insurance protection, risk management, and people strategy gives every client the resilience to thrive — no matter what comes next.

Our Values

The Gallagher Way: Values Written by Hand, Lived Every Day

Passionate service, strategic innovation, and ethical behaviour form the foundation of how we do business. We support one another, believe in one another, and acknowledge the ability of one another. We push for professional excellence and recognise that we can all improve and learn together. We believe a sustainable, inclusive, and ethical organisation is a resilient one — and that is as true for us as for the clients we advise.

Why working with us

Client-Centric. Expertise-Driven. Locally Connected.

It is our attitude toward clients, our capabilities, and our accessibility — that culture of working together and supporting each other — that makes the best outcome for every client. Our industry specialists are passionate about sharing depth and breadth of knowledge, providing thought leadership and fresh perspectives so you can make confident decisions for your business, your employees, and your community. With more than 300 trained professionals in our claims and customer service centre, direct access to over 45 major insurance companies, and a presence in 130+ countries, we combine global scale with local expertise.

Sustainability

Committed to Our Planet and Our Communities

Gallagher has set a goal of Net Zero (Scope 1 and Scope 2) by 2050 for its global operations, with an interim target of 50% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions per employee by 2030. We believe a sustainable, inclusive, and ethical organisation is a resilient organisation — and for nearly 100 years, that ethos has shaped how we show up in our communities and advise our clients.

Community & Impact

Showing Up Where It Matters

Colleagues and communities are at the heart of The Gallagher Way. We partner with national nonprofits, local community organisations, and educational institutions — including historically Black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, and women's colleges — to broaden opportunity and give back. Our Gallagher Connect Partners network amplifies minority-, women-, and veteran-owned firms, extending our community impact into our supply chain and client solutions.

Inclusion & Diversity

Inclusion as a Conscious Commitment

Inclusion and diversity is a core part of our business, embedded into the fabric of our organisation. Gallagher embraces the diverse identities of our employees — including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, religion, and disability — and sees inclusion as a conscious commitment and diversity as a vital strength. We foster strong, sustainable relationships with diverse academic institutions and community organisations, and our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Consulting group helps clients build their own I&D strategies.

Awards & Accreditations

Recognised for Ethics and Excellence

Gallagher is consistently recognised as one of the world's most ethical companies, reflecting its long-standing commitment to professional excellence, strong leadership, respect, and empathy as expressed through The Gallagher Way.

Compensation Disclosure

Gallagher is compensated in a variety of ways. The insurance coverages and services a client purchases through Gallagher may be subject to one or a combination of the following compensation arrangements:

Commissions and Fees. Gallagher receives usual and customary brokerage commissions or fees (and occasionally fees in addition to commissions) for its services. In addition to such fees and commissions, Gallagher may also receive investment income on fiduciary funds temporarily held by it, such as premiums or return premiums. Commissions are typically a percentage of the premium charged by an insurer. Other parties, such as excess and surplus lines brokers, wholesalers, reinsurance intermediaries, underwriting managers, captive managers, third party administrators, claims adjusters and similar parties, some of which may be owned in whole or in part by Gallagher, may earn and retain usual and customary commissions and fees in the course of providing insurance products and risk management services to clients.

Contingent Commissions. Gallagher may also participate in contingent commission arrangements with insurance companies that provide for additional contingent compensation if certain underwriting, profitability, volume or retention goals are achieved. Such goals are typically based on the total amount of certain insurance coverages placed by Gallagher with the insurance company, not on an individual policy basis. As a result, Gallagher may be considered to have an incentive to place insurance coverages with a particular insurance company.

Supplemental Commissions. Some insurance markets, including Gallagher-owned intermediaries, have modified their commission schedule with Gallagher, resulting in an increase in some commission rates. These additional commissions, commonly referred to as “supplemental commissions”, are known as of the effective date of the policy, but some insurance companies are paying this commission later and apart from when commission is normally paid at policy issuance. Unlike contingent commissions, supplemental commissions are determined without regard to any performance factors contingent on underwriting, profitability, volume or retention goals.

Other Benefits or Compensation. From time to time, Gallagher may participate in insurance company promotional events or training and development that insurers provide for Gallagher employees.

Other Carrier Services. Gallagher strives to find appropriate coverage at a competitive price for our customers. In order to achieve these goals, we gather and analyze data about our customers and their insurance coverage. This data and the resulting analytical tools help us better understand the current marketplace, more accurately predict future trends and offer tailored solutions to our customers. The data may also be provided to insurers pursuant to consulting service agreements from which we earn fees.

Clients with more specific questions about the compensation received (or expected to be received) by Gallagher and its affiliates in relation to their insurance placements should contact their Gallagher representative for more details.
