About Us
About the company
Who we are
We are a world-centre of excellence in research and development, and act as catalyst for fast-track innovation, offering outstanding experimentation facilities, technical, engineering and scientific expertise. The land, sea and air ranges we operate are some of the most advanced in the world.
What we do
We build integrated solutions with innovative approaches to current and future challenges. Not only can we develop cutting-edge technology and turn it into capability, we also assess if that capability will work when it is critically needed and ensure your team is trained and operationally ready.
Our Purpose
Protecting lives and securing the vital interests of our customers.
Everything we do is about delivering on our purpose. It connects everyone who works for QinetiQ around the world together, giving us all focus, direction and a unique sense of pride.
Our Values
Integrity
Trusted to do the right thing at all times, we take pride in our decisions, and work to create a sustainable and responsible business. We are responsible and accountable for all our actions. We take personal responsibility to do the right thing, demonstrating this individually and as an organisation in our decisions, behaviour and day-to-day actions. We actively support each other to meet the highest ethical and professional standards.
Collaboration
The chosen partner for customers and industry partners, we are a diverse and inclusive community with a common purpose; every contribution is valued. Delivering value through partnership and teamwork, we actively collaborate with our colleagues, customers and industry partners to bring together the best thinking, the smartest talent and breadth and depth in capability to our work, driving innovation. We know that working together is the best way to meet our stakeholder’s needs.
Performance
Customer focused and highly responsive, providing operational excellence and assuring safe and secure delivery. Our performance is measured by how we deliver for our customers; meeting their needs through flawless execution and delivery of the mission-critical solutions on which they depend. This includes being accountable for getting things right first time, safely, securely and in a cost effective way. Taking an innovative and responsive approach to create an outstanding customer experience, we try to go the extra mile and act with courage.
Sustainability
Sometimes referred to as responsible procurement, ethical procurement or green procurement, simply put, sustainable procurement is when a company balances the need to embed responsible and sustainable business principles into its procurement processes while also meeting the needs and requirements of the company and customers.
It’s the consideration of how a procurement decision could improve social, economic or environmental well-being and how through the procurement process, one may act in securing value creation.
Sustainable procurement is the new fundamental priority joining quality, cost, reliability, timeliness, flexibility and innovation as a key component for sustaining a competitive business, integrating purpose, corporate accountability and delivering benefit to our customers.
Community & Impact
QinetiQ is committed to being a good neighbour in the communities in which we operate. We believe it’s the right thing to do and it’s valued by our employees.
Our approach is to understand the needs of our local communities, global trends (and drivers such as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals), and we align these with our business strategy, our stakeholder expectations and best practice, while playing to the strengths of our employees.
As a significant employer of scientists and engineers, we are committed to inspiring the next generation to consider careers in science and engineering. Our Science, Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) outreach programme recognises the value of inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers and helping to address current and future skills shortages in these disciplines. Our people use their professional skills to make a positive difference, and our approach is to grow sustainable long-term relationships with local schools and youth groups such as cadets, near to our sites. We offer our people at least 1 volunteering day per year, and in addition to STEM outreach volunteering, our non-technical people use their professional skills to make a positive difference in our local communities.
We value the expertise of outreach partners such as STEM Learning and Primary Engineer in the UK, TechnoTeens in Belgium and the Re-Engineering Australia Foundation, to continue to understand young peoples’ current needs. In 2019, we started a corporate partnership with the Jon Egging Trust. JET is a charity that supports young people to overcome adversity and develop core competencies to help them fulfil their true potential, using an early intervention approach and unique motivational, inspirational and confidence-building programmes. Our partnership has enabled JET to expand their Blue Skies inspirational outreach programmes in the Wiltshire region, and to provide young people with access to inspirational role models and life-changing opportunities in the world of engineering, aviation and science. For further information about the Jon Egging Trust, visit their website.
QinetiQ also led the launch of The 5% Club, an initiative designed to invest in the younger generation by creating momentum behind the recruitment of apprentices and graduates in the UK.
We support a number of charities across QinetiQ that are important to our people. Our strategic and local charity partnerships are carefully chosen to maximise specific local needs and alignment with our business strategy, for example in the areas of innovation, technology, and skills/education
• In the UK we partner with SSAFA, The Armed Forces Charity. We have also support a number of local Charity of the Year partners across many of our sites.
• In the US, employees fundraise for a number of defence charities;
• In Australia we have a two-year partnership with the Australian War Memorial in Canberra to provide in-kind advisory services and engineering expertise.
