We have a wide ranging capability with varying levels of autonomy (algorithms/software) and mission systems requirements. This includes technologies for sensing, orientation, decision making/planning, control (move, position themselves, strike) all being developed with scalability, security and certification in mind.

We develop robots in a variety of sizes and with varying capabilities that provide protection and support keeping military, first responders and civilians out of harm’s way. Our family of robots includes small, medium and large unmanned vehicles that can be configured for specific tasks, such as IED defeat, CBRN/hazmat identification, reconnaissance, combat engineering support and SWAT/MP unit assistance. Around the world, our robots have earned a reputation for durability, reliability and flexibility.

We have the ability to apply, configure, test, use and evaluate the performance of technology for digital networking and radio communication in all electromagnetic frequency bands (including optical).

We can work in every conceivable environment (near field, wide area, space, underwater, ionosphere), including novel configurations, and in constrained and challenging environments (e.g. low bandwidth, high error rates, size, power, weight, temperature, humidity, shock, bespoke human factors), and in particular regulatory contexts (e.g. air certified, subject to specific platform design authority requirements).

We have world class navigation expertise including in global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and associated user receivers. We are experts in navigation resilience for demanding environments which are highly dynamic, and are under threat from interference/jamming, spoofing and RF cyber-attacks. We are also developing next generation, complementary GNSS-free technologies including navigation using signals of opportunity, celestial navigation and the utilising novel sensors.

Our award winning Q20HD high dynamics GPS receiver provides a unique capability that underpins the advanced complex weapons improving their effectiveness and reducing collateral damage. Our ability to harness modern computer modelling, such as Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis, validated through specialist experimental facilities such as the Ocean Basin, Ship tank and 5m wind tunnel, provides our customers with access to world class expertise.

Recent success stories include input into the design of the UK’s Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers and, in partnership with Boeing, our aerodynamicists have played a crucial role in the development of modern advanced aircraft such as Boeing’s 787 and 777X.

We undertake research, test and evaluation, and provide guidance and advice to protect personnel, maximise survival, enhance personnel performance, minimise impact of stressors, and inform design.

For example, we provide hearing protection for aircrew that is compliant with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations, while ensuring allowable flying hours meet operational needs.

Ensuring human factors are at the centre of complex systems design results in more effective and efficient outcomes and minimises human error. We have deep expertise and a breadth of capability across disciplines, from conceptualising and de-risking immersive training environments to enhancing human performance in high risk environments.

Our Human Performance teams complement training through an understanding of the human component, from personnel to behavioural analysis, utilising consultancy, analytical and experimental techniques for individual and team performance in defence and non-defence domains.

We are major award winners for our innovation in distributed team training that adapts to changing operational needs, and are delivering training to RAF pilots engaged in ground attack missions alongside British Army forward air controllers and artillery personnel.

We develop devices to meet specific application requirements, e.g. high energy for space or portable use, high power for motorsport, smart batteries for electric vehicles, and we have a pilot production facility for manufacture of Li-ion cells.

We offer a comprehensive test and evaluation service that includes qualification of batteries to various military and international standards, forensic investigation of battery incidents (e.g. for the CAA), and in-service support of batteries to MOD.

Our domain knowledge is applied to a wide variety of market sectors, from defence to vehicles and wearable technologies. We have a supply contract to provide fully-qualified batteries to MOD; and over the past 10 years have supplied 100 million items.

Additionally, we have developed a new shock resistant battery for the European Space Agency that can withstand an impact of 50,000G, and have recently completed trials of new Li-ion battery packs to replace the ageing silver-zinc batteries in underwater target platforms.

For example, we designed and developed the ALARM radar specifically to provide sufficient warning of attacks from short-range low trajectory rockets. Developed from concept to fielded operational use in just 18 months the system has subsequently saved many lives.
